Matthias Maierhofer, cathedral organist, plays 19th- and 20th-century music on the 2008 St. Michael's Organ built in "international style" (about the same as "eclectic" style) by Metzler of Switzerland with 43 stops, 49 ranks, on 3 manuals, now 46 stops and 52 ranks following the addition of independent Trompettes en chamade at 16, 8, and 4. The organ has mechanical key action with its own keydesk; as well, it is playable via electric action with all four organs in the cathedral from a single, large console. The CD booklet is in English and German, with stoplists, photos, and interesting essays.
