Timothy Edward Smith Plays the 1912 Casavant 4m, St. Anthony's, New Bedford, Mass.
"Smith is thoroughly at home on this magnificent instrument . . ." The Tracker, Summer '08 - [OAR-920]
$15.98

Writes Greg Crowell in The Tracker, Journal of the Organ Historical Society Vol. 52, No. 3 Summer 2009, ". . . It can hardly be doubted that Casavant was among the finest organbuilding firms in the world at the time this organ was built; with colorful but eloquent reeds, singing principals, and thrilling plenum, the organ rises to every occasion with assurance and authority. . . Smith is thoroughly at home on this magnificent organ, whose sound is beautifully captured by recording engineer Edward J. Kelly. . . . Raven has done a great service in putting this outstanding organ and player on this highly recommended disc."

Timothy Edward Smith plays the four-manual organ built in 1912 by Casavant Fréres of St. Hyacinth, Quebec, op. 489, for the large and resonant St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in New Bedford, Massachusetts. A spectacularly decorated architectural monument, the church recently has been restored, and the organ has more recently been renovated, preserving almost all of its original pipes despite tonal revisions ca. 1929 and 1955.
