Holder writes, "This CD seeks to explore and celebrate the immediate legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach that existed before his great revival by Mendelssohn in the 19th century . . ." When Mozart wrote, "Bach is the father, we are the children," he spoke of Carl Philip Emanuel Bach, not Johann Sebastian as we might assume." The composers represented were siblings of C. P. E. Bach or were held in high esteem during the late 18th and early 19th centuries; one was transcribed by J. S. Bach.

The 1797 Holzhay organ straddles the transition of styles in organbuilding from Baroque to Classical and early Romantic organs, especially as practiced in southern Germany, with the development of some orchestral voices continuing as they began to appear in the latter 18th century. The organ was built for the Abbey at Neresheim, begun in 1742 and completed in 1797 and the late Baroque masterpiece of architect Balthasar Neumann (1687-1753), who did not live to see the Abbey's completion. Organist Peter Holder is sub-organist of Westminster Abbey and formerly of St. Paul's Cathedral, London.
