"genius at work here . . . unbeatable" reviews The American Organist - [OAR-800]
$15.98

Charles Huddleston Heaton reviews in The Diapason: ". . . altogether magnificent playing in a magnificent setting . . . Teague is a legend in his own time"

Paul Aldridge reviews in The American Organist: "William Teague . . . attests that he is [this organ's] maestro absoluto with his majestic playing. . . .Teague draws his stops like a painter working on a palette of infinite colors: every note is heard, every tone color is evident. What is remarkable is not that the organ fits these pieces so well but that it encompasses all of the works with equal aplomb, as does Teague. Their combined composure provides a bountiful elegance to all of the music. . . . This is an uncompromisingly excellent anthology that should be in the collection of every Aeolian-Skinner fan and on the shelf of every organist who plays any of these works. There is a synthesis of genius at work here: Harrison, Whiteford, Perry, Teague, Dupré, Ginastera, Cook, Bingham, Messiaen . . ."

William Teague plays the 105-rank Aeolian-Skinner contracted in 1955 and completed in 1959 with the collaboration of Roy Perry, the famous A-S representative who had great talent in tonal design and finishing. Teague, a native of Gainesville, Texas, dedicated the completed organ and is the organist/choirmaster emeritus of the Episcopal cathedral in Shreveport, Louisiana. Very rarely recorded, this organ enjoys the sumptuous acoustics of a grand, vertical neo-Gothic building. This 2-CD set represents a retrospective of William Teague’s outstanding artistry as a major concertizing organist of the mid-20th century, collecting several fine performances of almost always excellent technical sound quality. *One work is recorded on the Aeolian-Skinner at First Presbyterian Church, Kilgore, Texas. Under the exclusive management of Lillian Murtagh Concert Management, Mr. Teague played extensively throughout the United States, England, Scotland, Wales, all of Europe, Mexico, Russia, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. For ten summers, Mr. Teague served as organist and music director for St. Ann’s by the Sea Episcopal Church in Kennebunkport, Maine.
