Anton Heiller Plays Reger - [ACD-4001] $16.98

Choralfantasie über Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme op. 52, Nr. 2
Pastorale F, op. 59, no. 2
Benedictus, op. 59, no. 9
Fantasie und Fuge in D Minor, op. 135b

The definitive performances of these works were recorded by Anton Heiller in April, 1972, on the 1968 Marcussen organ of 4 manuals and 70 stops at the Cathedral in Linz, Austria, and released in 1973 as an LP on the Erato label. Out-of-print for decades, a crowd-funding effort undertaken by Bernhard Heiller, Anton's son, and the Ambiente CD label of Germany have resulted in release of the recording on CD with with fabulous tonal results: the sound is so much better than it is on the LP. The organ is beautiful, rich, and full in sound, so that the dense writing of Reger becomes musically clear and not a wall of noise as it often becomes on the opaque German organs of Reger's time. Imported by Raven.
