Martin West plays all of the organ works of Theodor Kirchner (1823-1903) on the 1818 Buchholz/1840 Schulze/1866 Grüneberg organ of four manuals, pedal, and 70 ranks at St. Bartholomai Church in Demmin, Germany, a place of acoustics befitting the great Romantic organ and these German Romantic works largely in the style of Rheinberger and others of the period. The program of an hour and 8 minutes includes the reading, in German, of five letters written by Clara Schumann to Kirchner (interspersed among the organ works, the readings occupying about 31 minutes on the CD).
