This famous three-manual organ by E. & G. G. Hook of Boston, built
in 1870 for St. Alphonsus Church in New York City, has escaped
destruction twice. It was salvaged from St. Alphonsus by members of the
Organ Historical Society just weeks before the church was demolished.
At its splendid new home at St. Mary's Church, New Haven, Connecticut,
it escaped serious damage by arson in March 1998, though flames came
within three feet of the case. Bruce Stevens has received rave reviews
for this CD.
